2005 Rules and Regulations
Definitions- Amateur:
- A dance who has never received financial compensation for teaching or performing in any dance form.
- Professional:
- A dancer who is receiving financial compensation for teaching or performing in any dance form.
- Pro-Am:
- Selection of category - Novice, Intermediate, or Advanced - is based on the level of the amateur should be selected with the guidance of the professional.
- Competitions adhere to International Hustle/Salsa Dance Association rules.
- Competitors are required to fill out a registration form and sign a liability waiver compliance.
- All competitors will receive a number to be used for the entire weekend and will be responsible to keep that number.
- All competitors consent to release the use of their photographs, biographies, and names, for any video or television footage for sale.
- All heat competitors will dance to two songs of two minutes each - one slow and one fast, to be selected by Invitation to Dance.
- All solo competitors will supply their own music on CD.
- The minimum/maximum time allowed for all solo competitors includes entrance and exit, with or without music. Solo routines should be no less than 2 minutes and no more than 2 1/2 minutes.
- If there are fewer than three couples, Invitation to Dance reserves the right to cancel or combine divisions.
- The adjudicator and committee of judges will have final say on all discrepancies. All questions and/or disputes should be brought to the attention of the adjudicator in writing (Invitation to Dance will supply a form for this purpose, if needed).
- Employees and affiliates of Long Street Entertainment are not eligible.
- Salsa: Breaking on one, two, three, or four is permitted; however, proper salsa/mambo rhythm must be maintained.
- Just Dance: When a competition is designated just dance, routines, entrances or exits lifts, aerials of any kind are permitted. No costumes are needed.
- Qualifiers and Semifinals: Partner dancing (one male and one female). Qualifier competitions and IHSC 2005 Semifinals will be heated just dance. No lifts allowed.
- Finals: Finalists will have a prepared, spotlight routine to the song of their choice. Routine must be recognizable Salsa; however, lifts, dips, drops, and side by sides are allowed. Costumes not required but recommended. Solo routines to be 2 minutes minimum to 2 1/2 minutes maximum. Final placement will be based on a combined score from the heated and solo performances.
- While on the competition premises, competitors shall conduct themselves in a civil, sportsperson like manner at all times.
- It is the competitors' responsibility to be in attendance in advance of the advertised time scheduled for the events he or she is entering.
- Competitors entering a 3rd Annual Regional Salsa Competition event shall accept as final the individual markings of Judges and no appeal against them may be made, except when it can be shown that the actual markings have been incorrectly interpreted.
- No competitior shall harass or question a Judge about his or her personal reasons for marking.
- Any competitor who removes any of the master scrutineer sheets without the permission of the Organizers shall render him or herself liable to disciplinary action.
- The Organizers of the 3rd Annual Regional Salsa Competition reserves the right to reject the application of any competitor who has violated any of the above rules of conduct in prior events.
